This morning, on May 10th, 2024, CAB Vietnam, in response to an invitation from the People’s Committee of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, conducted a session instructing over 200 attendees on composting food waste into organic fertilizer at the ward’s hall. This initiative falls under the “From Clean Kitchen to Green Garden” model, a special project jointly implemented by the Ward’s People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and the Women’s Union of Hoa Thuan Tay Ward, with technical support from #CABVietnam.
This model has undergone a pilot phase with 17 households. Prior to this, participating households were engaged in various activities including:
- Conducting a Waste Audit over 7 days;
- Disseminating information about the Environmental Protection Law issued in 2020, the impact of waste, and solutions to reduce waste;
- Introducing and gathering feedback on the “From Clean Kitchen to Green Garden” model, including participants’ rights and responsibilities.
Today, representatives of these households received instruction on kitchen waste composting. With a careful and clear roadmap provided by the local government, CAB Vietnam is optimistic that the model will yield positive results. Particularly noteworthy is the interest shown by many neighborhood leaders and residents in the residential area at the end of the instruction session. They approached us for further inquiries about probiotics, composting bins, pricing, fermentation techniques, and provided information on contacts, material sources, and more. This engagement is truly an encouraging sign for us, as contributors to sustainable development.
Next week, CAB Vietnam members will commence monitoring to support households in properly implementing food waste composting techniques, with the aim of spreading positive impacts to many other families in the ward.
