This was the core message of the final workshop for the project “Building and Implementing a Roadmap to Reduce Single-Use Plastics in Schools in Son Tra District,” held on March 28, 2025, in Da Nang.
The workshop gathered around 100 participants, including officials from relevant departments, teachers, parents, and 20 student representatives from the four participating schools. These schools have implemented various creative solutions, such as negotiating with suppliers to replace single-use plastic packaging, raising awareness among students and parents, and collaborating with canteens to switch from foam containers to reusable plates and bowls.
Notable Results:
- Van Khuyen Kindergarten reduced plastic waste by 70%.
- Quang Trung Primary School cut plastic waste by 29%.
- Nguyen Chi Thanh Secondary School canteen completely eliminated foam containers after three months.
- Son Tra High School hosted zero-plastic-waste events, reducing waste from 1–2 truckloads to none at each event.
Additionally, staff, teachers, students, and parents at the four schools collectively implemented 63 plastic reduction initiatives, while teachers designed 50 lessons to ensure long-term impact.
Although the project has officially ended, the journey continues. Representatives from local departments have proposed expanding this model to more schools. A guideline for reducing single-use plastics, developed by CAB and the project management team, will be published by the end of April to support interested organizations.
CAB Vietnam sincerely thanks our sponsor, Pacific Environment (PE VN), and all partners for joining us in creating sustainable change!
