The project ” Participatory Developing and Implementing a Roadmap to Reduce Single-Use Plastics in Schools in Son Tra District, Da Nang City” officially concluded at the end of March. Today, the CAB Vietnam team had the great honor of welcoming 55 staff members from Pacific Environment Vietnam (PE VN)—representing many countries—to visit two of the four schools involved in the project: Vanh Khuyen Kindergarten and Son Tra High School.
At each school, PE representatives had the opportunity to hear from school leaders about the changes following their participation in the project.
At Vanh Khuyen Kindergarten, the school successfully negotiated with food suppliers to reduce plastic packaging; discussions were held with kitchen staff to limit the use of plastic when preparing meals for children; communication efforts were made with parents to reduce plastic usage when sending extra food to school; and children were also taught how to sort and dispose of waste in the correct bins. At Son Tra High School, the school adopted a “Plastic-Free” approach for major events. Instead of each student bringing several plastic bags, foam containers, plastic cups, and bottles, the school replaced them with banana leaves and reusable cups—cutting plastic waste at events by up to 90%. Students now bring their own reusable water bottles to school, significantly reducing daily plastic waste. The school continues working with stakeholders to reduce waste from breakfast containers.Since our first engagement with waste management and our initial partnership with PE in 2020, CAB has grown into a trusted organization in the field of waste management in Da Nang—working closely with local authorities, mass organizations, and numerous NGOs both in Vietnam and internationally. PE has played a vital role in this journey, and CAB extends its heartfelt thanks to PE!
The journey toward reducing plastic waste is still long and filled with challenges, but we deeply value the partnership between CAB, PE, and local stakeholders—not merely as a relationship between a donor and a recipient, but as an equal collaboration among partners striving toward a shared goal: a greener environment and sustainable development.
