On April 26, 2025, the lively workshop “Reducing waste and Increasing green spaces in the community with a focus on gender inclusivity ” took place at the Da Nang Youth Union headquarters, gathering 30 young participants from Da Nang, Hanoi, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Bac Lieu.
The workshop was co-organized by the Center for Adaptive Capacity Building (CAB), the Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations (DANUSTA), the Da Nang Youth Union, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Vietnam, and Pacific Environment Vietnam (PE VN).
Participants came from a wide range of ages and educational backgrounds — from high school students to university students majoring in Education, Engineering, Architecture, Foreign Languages, Information Technology, Medicine, Transportation, Physical Education, and even young entrepreneurs running small businesses.
Thanks to a variety of participatory methods — including face-to-face seating arrangements, interactive games, group work, and idea pitching — the workshop maintained a vibrant and energetic atmosphere throughout the day! Together, participants explored and discussed:
After a full day of dynamic activities, the results were impressive:
• 12 ideas were presented
• 9 projects were selected by the judging panel to receive seed funding for implementation, including:
(1) Reducing plastic waste at the University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City
(2) Promoting the role of youth in waste reduction and sorting at Chau Van Liem High School, Can Tho
(3) Piloting household waste sorting and treatment at 10 households in Da Nang
(4) The “100 Dong House” and a recycling competition in Kien Giang, Quang Binh
(5) Raising awareness of plastic waste reduction and increasing green spaces at Truong Chinh High School, Gia Lai
(6) Enhancing awareness on reducing domestic waste at the University of Medical Technology, Da Nang
(7) Reducing the use of single-use plastic products at Son Tra High School, Da Nang

The “Waste Reduction Campaign” for students at Le Thi Hong Gam Secondary School, Da Nang
(9) Raising awareness among Bac Lieu students about the link between waste and aquatic resources, mangrove forests, and wetland ecosystems
The organizers hope that the selected youth teams will gain valuable experience in project planning and small-scale budget management, paving the way for them to take on even larger initiatives in the future.
