In an atmosphere filled with energy and eagerness to learn, the International Workshop on The Political Management Training batch 10th 2025 on Sustainable Urban Development in Asia took place successfully in the coastal city of Da Nang from April 30 to May 4. This meaningful event was the result of close collaboration between the Center for Adaptive Capacity Building Research (CAB Vietnam), the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang (DANUSTA), and #FESVietnam.
The workshop brought together nearly 60 participants from across Asia, including 33 trainees, 9 experienced trainers and speakers in the field of sustainable development, and 18 staff members from DANUSTA, CAB, FES Asia.
Throughout the workshop, participants were engaged in acquiring essential knowledge and skills through highly participatory methods such as interactive games, team-building exercises, group discussions, and meaningful field visits. Key topics included:
• Framework and principles of sustainable urban development
• Systems thinking and policy analysis towards sustainable mobility
• Inclusive and Green Budget for Urban planning
• Negotiation skills for sustainable urban policy advocacy
• Community building through stakeholder engagement
In addition, the workshop featured inspiring panel discussions and presentations from both seasoned experts and young changemakers contributing actively to urban development.
Da Nang left a lasting impression on the international participants—not only because of its clean, expansive beaches, but also thanks to its welcoming open spaces such as APEC Park and Museum, where children are freely playing and exploring. Han Market and Son Tra Night Market were also highlights, offering fresh local cuisine at affordable prices. Particularly memorable was the sharing from Mr. Dang Viet Dung, former Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee, about the city’s “5 Nos, 3 Yeses, and 4 Safes” program—a visionary and inclusive strategy for building a safe and sustainable living environment for all.
According to participants, Da Nang truly stands out as a safe, friendly, and forward-looking city in sustainable development. The organizing teams from FES Asia affirmed that choosing Da Nang as the host location for this training was the right decision. Beyond acquiring knowledge and skills, participants also explored real-world urban development models and gained invaluable experiences that will inspire and shape their future leadership in sustainable urban development.
The CAB Vietnam team would like to express our heartfelt thanks to FES partners for trusting Da Nang as the venue for this important training workshop. We are also deeply grateful for the support and cooperation from the city authorities, which helped ensure the event ran safely and smoothly over the five days.
Let’s continue to walk together with CAB Vietnam to promote and spread the values of sustainable development!
